In modern games, players use ceramic or plastic chips to make their bets. Typically, the chips are counted to determine the winner.
The cards are dealt face-up or face-down, depending on the rules of the particular game. Each player is dealt a certain number of cards, which are then rotated clockwise around the table. In a typical game, the house dealer handles the cards for each hand.
